Are you a leader? Are you conscious of the different hats you wear in team development – and how you use them?

When we think about team development, we naturally focus on the team and the team coach.
But the leader’s role is just as critical.
Leaders have multiple roles – client, sponsor, enabler, role model, learner, co-coach and more.
In my recent webinar with Henley Business School, I asked participants which roles they hadn’t previously considered. See poll results below.
🎩 48% hadn’t considered the leader as co-coach – actively working alongside the team coach.
🎩 41% hadn’t considered the leader as a learner – building their own self-awareness and understanding their impact on the team.
There were also surprises around more familiar roles:
🎩 19% hadn’t considered the leader as a role model, and another
🎩 19% hadn’t considered the leader as a one-to-one coach, supporting and embedding the team’s work.
Leaders have a significant impact on team coaching – sometimes consciously, and sometimes without realising it.
The key is being aware of impact and using it deliberately – understanding how behaviours, choices and involvement influence conditions for team coaching to be effective.
If you’d like to talk about leadership impact, get in touch. It’s important. The leader can make or break team coaching!
