❄️🏔️I love snow. I love mountains.

During what feels like the first real New Zealand winter in years, I escaped to the centre of the North Island to top up on a few of my favourite things.

 I realised it was also a pretty analogy for Vertical (or Adult) Development.

Down in National Park Village, my focus was on immediate things in front of me. Is the road open? Will I need chains? Am I wearing enough warm layers? Will these boots grip on the ice?

🏔️ 🏔️ 🏔️ As Bruce Road climbs, so does the view.

Individual volcanic peaks poking above trees become an entire landscape. Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngāuruhoe are no longer indivdual mountains - they are part of one connected system. 

The landscape didn’t change (although Maori legend tells us Mountains can move at night).

But my perspective did! Up higher, I could see connections.

That's what Vertical Development is! Expanding capacity to make sense of the world. To see patterns instead of isolated events, relationships instead of separate parts, and complexity without assuming simple answers.
