🔋 🪫 One thing you can control? Your energy!Â

I was talking about this with a team recently.
They’d developed a habit of moaning and complaining about things they felt weren’t working - processes, head office policies, other people in the organisation.
And the moaning was contagious. Even some of the most positive people in the team were getting dragged into it.
So, we got back to basics...
We talked about energy - and where the team was collectively using it.
They have a choice: focus their energy on the things they can control and influence (refence Covey), or spend it on the things they can’t.
And those choices don’t just affect the quality of their work and behaviour. They can also spill over into personal life, family & friends, and health & wellbeing.
Energy is finite. Yes, we can recharge our batteries, but we can also drain them pretty quickly worrying about what someone else should do, replaying what’s already happened, or complaining about things we can’t change.
We spent the rest of the session focusing on what they can influence — and how they can support each other to maintain a more positive focus and keep each other on track. Much better use of their energy!
Changing collective thinking habits in a team isn’t easy.
But hopefully the conversation landed.
I’m looking forward to seeing them again in a few weeks — and seeing where their energy is allocated.Â
Time to refocus your energy as a team? Get in touch - I'd love to have share what the team in this post is doing about it (anonymously of course).
